Die Signale stehen auf Eskalation
The leader of the train drivers' union GDL, Weselsky, has defended the recent strike and strongly criticized the railway negotiator Seiler. The German Railway (DB) has called on GDL to return to negotiations instead of escalating the conflict further. In an emotional appearance, Claus Weselsky, the head of the GDL, defended the decision to strike and launched a sharp attack on the railway negotiator, Martin Seiler. Weselsky stated in a press conference, "We evaluated the offer; Mr. Seiler is manipulating and deceiving not only the railway's own employees but also the customers.
" He pointed out that Seiler linked the proposed reduction of weekly working hours by one hour to the condition that the railway could hire sufficient additional staff. Additionally, Weselsky mentioned that the railway refuses to negotiate a GDL collective agreement for employees in infrastructure. The GDL is willing to continue negotiations only if there are no preconditions.
